10+ Hair Moments from the Grown-ish Season Premiere

This past week, Freeform blessed the small screen with a Black-ish spinoff in which the eldest daughter, Zooey Johnson (played by Yara Shahidi) explores her first few days of college. In not one, but two premiere episodes, we explored the ups and downs of the millenial college experience: first day outfits, sleeping through classes, "addy" abuse, and the infamous "u up?" text.

I am loving every moment of this show: the writing and casting are on point! But what I'd like to take a moment to talk about is the hair! Yara has always served us black girl magic in the form of hair goals so I expected nothing less in this spinoff, but homegirl had the nerve to serve us 8 whole entire looks in the span of 45 minutes?! Let's review!

Look #1: Zozo rocks what I assume is a wash n go with two simple twists in the front. A go-to look for naturals everywhere!

Look # 2: In the squad's Breakfast Club inspired photo, Zooey dons a gorgeous curly fro (bantu knot out?) paired with a tiny braid down her center part and two Fulani braids dangling gloriously from her edges.

Look # 3: Zooey whips a waistlength rope braid with silver braiding cords wrapped around it. Hello Coachella hair!

Look # 4: The rope braid makes a comeback without the cording this time. This is a great look for a slip-n-slide party because you'll still slaying even after getting your hair wet!

Look #5: Another wash-n-go or possibly a twist out? I'm not sure but I'm loving it, especially with the piecey bangs and big ol' hoops!

Look #6: Beaded fulani braids in the front, box braid ponytail in the back! And that precise triangular parting? Zooey is serving us LOOKS!

Look #7: She lets the box braids down and throws on a fabulous headband that I am almost sure I saw at my beauty supply store last week.

Look #8: There are a million and one ways to style braids so I am not surprised Zooey rocked her Fulani + box braids combo for the entirety of the second episode. Here, she puts the box braids in a high bun and slaps on another fabulous headband! Can I have her accessories closet AND her hairstylist?

Look # 9: How could we forget about the twins' adorable side pony's?! Fun fact: IRL, they are sisters very close in age, not twins.

Look # 10: The twins serve us two sets of double buns (quadruple buns?) paired with their signature wavy locs. Fun Fact: Did you know they sung the show's intro? Do yourself a favor and listen to Grown by Chloe x Halle all the way through .

Look # 11: Luca aka Baby Basquiat and his freeform locs are everything!

Honorable Mention: Nomi's high and low double bun looks were adorable!

Dishonorable Mention: Aaron's rat tail! Fix it, Jesus.

So now that we have our fill of natural hair inspiration for the year, I would like to applaud Ms. Yara and the Grown-ish team! Which looks were your favorite?
