The Best Ways to Utilize Men's Dress Shirts

With the fashion industry's ongoing obsession with "boyfriend fit" women's apparel, I have fallen in love with men's dress shirts.  As a petite girl, I could not get into the boyfriend jeans trend but I have been reinventing mens shirts since my middle school days (long before I had a boyfriend and I had to beg my Dad to give up a few old church shirts).

Men's dress shirts are the most essential pieces in a women's closet. Think about how versatile and multifaceted they are. One simple shirt can be refashioned into a dress, a skirt, an off the shoulder blouse, a belted blouse, a tank top, a vest, or even a headwrap. You don't even need a boyfriend to get your hands on one. Most of my dress shirts come from the thrift store. Don't be too shy to venture into the mens section. I always find great dress shirts and oversized sweaters there.

I scooped up this bright yellow button up from my local thrift store just a few months ago. As soon as I saw it, I knew it would make the perfect off-the shoulder top. By loosening a few buttons and pinning down the collar, this oversized men's shirt is instantly transformed into a shoulder-bearing sassy top that is perfect for Spring. Paired with my favorite Fashion Nova jeans that cinch my waist in perfectly, this semi-casual look is perfect for breezy February afternoons. Paired with a pair of chunky heels or espadrille wedges and a straw handbag, this look is perfect for a picnic date.

Do you have any unconventional pieces in your wardrobe? How do you style them?
