Accessorizing is a crucial aspect of fashion that almost always gets overlooked. When you put an outfit together, you tend to focus on the core elements of that outfit. While this is obviously important, you will improve the overall look of every outfit when you add the right accessories to it.

Needless to say, there are loads of accessories out there - and it’s easy to get things wrong. But, if you want to improve your fashion sense and look great, then follow the golden rules of accessorizing:

Always Have A Statement Piece Of Jewelry

Jewelry is such a great accessory to bring to any outfit. Regardless of where you’re going, you will find a piece of jewelry brings an outfit together and complements the style. My rule is to always have one statement piece of jewelry as part of the outfit. There’s no need to cover yourself in different necklaces and lavish trinkets - it all becomes too overbearing. As you can see on, there are some gorgeous rings or necklaces with gems/diamonds that act as the ideal statement piece. A small thing like this is all you need to make a big difference. The type of outfit you’re wearing should dictate what kind of jewelry to wear. For example, I think necklaces are the perfect piece to go with low-cut dresses. Earrings or rings are ideal for more relaxed outfits, and you can’t go wrong with a beautiful bracelet if you’re wearing short sleeves!

Match Colors

Perhaps the most critical rule of accessorizing is that you need to match the colors at all times. There are many things you can use as an accessory, with bags or hats being two of the most common examples. Regardless of what you’re adding to the outfit, make sure the colors match what you’re wearing. Otherwise, you have a perfectly matched outfit with mismatched accessories; it just won’t work. If anything, you can use this as an idea to help make your outfit more substantial and stand out.

A Little Goes A Long Way

When someone says that you need to add fashion accessories to an outfit, it’s easy to get so carried away. You grab a bag, a hat, some glasses, a pair of gloves, and layer yourself in jewelry. In my eyes, less is more. A little goes a long way, which means you shouldn’t be too concerned about how many accessories you’re wearing. Instead, focus on the quality of accessories and what they bring to the outfit. Generally speaking, I think you should only choose items that will actually make a difference to what you’re wearing. If the outfit doesn’t improve in any way, then what’s the point?!

These golden rules of accessorizing should help you dress better and get more out of your outfits. Sometimes, you feel like a particular outfit just doesn’t look that good - or that it’s missing something. Instead of throwing it away and buying a brand new outfit, you can improve it by adding a few stylish accessories.
